Hurst House London
'Its handsome chrome-and-glass bar looks like an installation on loan from Tate Modern'
Breif: During phase one and two of HH Wales we were hi jacked by the owners Neil and Matt (yes, them again!) for a complete fit out of a private members club they had ' happened upon' one afternoon...
Located in the heart of Covent Garden, this small space set on two floors had a long and honourable history in various incarnations as an aftershow wateringhole for the local performers and thespians alike. It had lain empty and guttted for some time and was in a rather sad and damp state with very little natural light to lift the spirits. The plan was to restore the old place to it's former role as a small secret den for the creative souls of Soho. As with all private members clubs privacy was paramount and so much use was made of gorgeous stained glass that made the windows artworks in their own right. Inside magical lights, shining metals of copper and aluminium, warm woods and leather all joined forces to dispel the evil goblins of gloom that had taken over the place. HH London is about to celebrate it's third anniversary and remains a small, warm (not so secret) glow in the depths of Covent Garden being enjoyed by a growing band of devotees.
